Privacy Policy - the basics

Having said that, a privacy policy is a statement that discloses some or all of the ways a website collects, uses, discloses, processes, and manages the data of its visitors and customers. It usually also includes a statement regarding the website’s commitment to protecting its visitors’ or customers’ privacy, and an explanation about the different mechanisms the website is implementing in order to protect privacy. 

 

Different jurisdictions have different legal obligations of what must be included in a Privacy Policy. You are responsible to make sure you are following the relevant legislation to your activities and location. 

What to include in the Privacy Policy

Generally speaking, a Privacy Policy often addresses these types of issues: the types of information the website is collecting and the manner in which it collects the data; an explanation about why is the website collecting these types of information; what are the website’s practices on sharing the information with third parties; ways in which your visitors and customers can exercise their rights according to the relevant privacy legislation; the specific practices regarding minors’ data collection; and much, much more.

Keep Baldwin County Moving

Since taking office in 2018, Commissioner Billie Jo Underwood has made road maintenance and transportation infrastructure a top priority as Baldwin County continues to grow. With the county responsible for maintaining approximately 1,550 miles of road, she has focused on the fundamentals that residents depend on every day. Between 2018 and 2025, Baldwin County resurfaced more than 436 miles of county roads and invested more than $46 million in resurfacing. Her approach has emphasized responsible planning and long-term investment to keep roads safer, smoother, and better prepared for future growth.

Safer Intersections​​​

Public safety on the road has remained a key priority throughout Commissioner Underwood’s time in office. During her term, Baldwin County has completed 30 intersection safety improvements and built three roundabouts, with more than $5 million invested in intersection safety projects. These improvements include better traffic flow, safer turning movements, and upgraded intersection designs in areas where congestion and conflict points once created hazards. Her focus has been on targeted improvements that help reduce serious crashes and make daily travel safer for Baldwin County families.

Bridge Reliability

With Baldwin County responsible for maintaining 156 county bridges, Commissioner Underwood has prioritized bridge reliability as an essential part of infrastructure planning. Since 2018, the county has replaced 16 bridges and invested more than $13 million in bridge improvements. While bridge projects may not always be highly visible, they are critical to keeping school buses, first responders, local businesses, and residents moving safely and reliably. Underwood’s approach has centered on proactive maintenance and replacement to avoid costly emergency repairs and protect taxpayer dollars over the long term.

Parks & Public Access

Commissioner Underwood believes that protecting quality of life is an important part of responsible growth. Since 2018, Baldwin County has completed 15 parks improvement projects and invested more than $18 million in parks and public access. That work includes new boat launches at the Intracoastal Waterway and County Road 6, as well as improvements to community destinations such as Live Oak Landing and Bicentennial Park. These investments help preserve the outdoor access and family-friendly amenities that make Baldwin County a special place to live.

Environmental Stewardship & Solid Waste

Commissioner Underwood has supported practical, forward-looking efforts to strengthen Baldwin County’s environmental stewardship and waste systems. Since 2018, the county has partnered on major improvements in solid waste and recycling, including the creation of the Baldwin County Solid Waste Authority, support for a $25 million recycling facility, and the launch of a Landfill Gas-to-Energy project. These initiatives are designed to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and help protect the county’s land and water resources for future generations.

Guided Growth

As Baldwin County continues to experience rapid growth, Commissioner Underwood has consistently advocated for a guided growth approach rooted in planning, transparency, and long-term thinking. Since taking office, she has supported major planning efforts including the county’s Strategic Plan adopted in 2021, updates to Subdivision Regulations in 2025, and zoning improvements in 2025. Her focus has been on balancing property rights, infrastructure capacity, and quality of life so Baldwin County can grow in a way that remains sustainable and true to its character.

Law Enforcement & Public Safety Partnerships

Commissioner Underwood has supported strong partnerships with law enforcement, prosecutors, the court system, and first responders to strengthen public safety across Baldwin County. Major investments include a new detention facility with a mental health wing in Bay Minette, a new District Attorney facility, and significant courthouse renovations with updated courtrooms and improved security features, including a new sally port. She has also supported expansion of the first responders radio network to improve communication coverage and redundancy, technology upgrades for jail operations and county systems, and stronger cybersecurity protections for county services and citizens’ information. In addition, Underwood has backed improved public communication tools, county alerts, and efficiency upgrades that support the justice system.

Animal Shelter & Community Care

Commissioner Underwood has also supported investments that reflect Baldwin County’s commitment to community care. During her term, the county has partnered to invest in a new $4 million, state-of-the-art animal shelter that provides safer, cleaner facilities, expanded capacity, and improved support for adoptions and responsible pet ownership. The project reflects her belief that strong county leadership includes both core infrastructure and the community services that improve daily life for residents.

Jobs & Investment Partnerships

Commissioner Underwood has worked alongside the Baldwin Alliance and local leaders to help position Baldwin County for major economic growth and job creation. During her time in office, the county has supported transformative projects including the Novelis Bay Minette project, revised to a $4.1 billion investment, one of the largest announced investments in Alabama history. Other major projects include ALDI’s regional headquarters and distribution center, bringing more than 200 jobs and $100 million in investment; Imperial Dade, with 55 jobs and more than $20 million in investment; Butting, with a $61 million investment and up to 100 jobs; and a planned $27 million cold storage facility in Foley. These efforts strengthen job opportunities, broaden the tax base, and support the county’s long-term competitiveness.

Workforce Development & Readiness

Commissioner Underwood has emphasized that recruiting jobs must go hand in hand with preparing local people to fill them. She has supported workforce partnerships focused on talent development, training, and long-term readiness, including Baldwin Preparatory Academy, a $100 million career-tech high school serving approximately 770 students and designed to connect students with real skills and career pathways. She has also supported broader workforce and talent initiatives such as Belong in Baldwin, participation in the Fuel Alabama summer talent program, and expanded training capacity including Auburn University’s education complex in Gulf Shores. These investments help build a stronger workforce pipeline and ensure Baldwin County is prepared for future employers and long-term opportunity.

Modern, Efficient County Service

Commissioner Underwood has worked to modernize county government so residents and businesses can access services more efficiently and with greater accountability. During her time in office, Baldwin County has improved permitting and development review through CitizenServe, strengthened cybersecurity protections, and upgraded communication tools to make county services easier to navigate. These improvements help create faster service, clearer tracking, and a more responsive local government that respects both taxpayers and their time.
